We are using the term new landmarks to cover new homes that stand out, either on their own or as a part of a small group. When we in this context, refer to a home 'standing out' we mean that it will be sufficiently interesting or well placed so that people uninterested in architecture, self build or house production will either be drawn to admire the life style it provides or remember it well after they have gone on to another area.
In many ways this is contrary to much of modern planning where properties are supposed to fit in or blend with their surroundings, and while this is sensible for the vast majority of properties, we feel that having a small number of special properties creates interest, stimulation and improves the areas in which they are located.
The UK government in its planning advice relating to building in the countryside has recognized the benefit of adding homes in our generation that make a significant impact, and have allowed special planning consideration for these.
During 2005 members who are interested in exploring the development of new landmarks will be invited to become a part of a special group, and together they will look at different designs, sites and considerations from architects, planners and others about the possibilities that exist and what can be achieved.
The brief of this group is to investigate two areas
This group is open to all members who have an interest in this topic, they do not necessarily have to have a personal interests in developing such a house.
This group will be coordinated by H3 search, and members who are interested in joining this group, should make their interest known.
The first phase of this project is the collection of ideas and thoughts and members and others are invited to submit these. The group will not have any meetings prior to April.
