We have a generous points programme that allows people to earn points before being a member, that can cover their membership cost and go on to earn large grants towards a house. Members have the option to use this programme to get large grants towards their home and take up other offers as well, ranging from cases of wine to Nikon digital cameras This grant can be as much as £200,000.

This scheme achieves two objectives, it allows people who may not choose to afford club membership, another route to get the benefits the club can offer and also allows us to have a cost effective means of recruiting members. The vast majority of members are introduced by existing members and while introducing one or two may be just being a good member, to go beyond this we feel should be rewarded.
The cost of running the points programme you will realize is only a fraction of that spent by most organizations on recruitment, so although very generous to members who are involved, also leaves more resources towards providing services for members.
Most members although finding the points scheme interesting have other things on their mind, and far too involved with getting on with their research, build and ending up with a home of their own, to their own design. Therefore the points scheme tends to be for those who perhaps have more available time, those who need to raise more cash and those who see this as an interesting and profitable hobby.
As people can become affiliates, without any cost to them, and earn the cost of membership and a large percentage of the cost of a house as well, you can see this can be attractive to some. They can also join and use this scheme to recover their joining fee and pay ongoing membership costs. We don't however ever promote this as the reason to join the club, as more might perhaps feel that this was for them than actually got around to actually doing anything, and retrospectively it would then not have been in these members best interests to have been attracted the to the club with this view in mind.
We ask all reports therefore not to promote this aspect out of proportion to other reasons to join the club, while many will want to mention that there is a points scheme that offers generous membership benefits or that there is a route that allows people to join at no cost, we would ask that you don't promote the idea that people should join and use the points scheme to get a free house, although conceptually this is a possibility for any member.
There is the potential for a small number of keen individuals in each area to use the points programme to make a sizable impact on the cost of their home, however like any scheme that requires a number of people to join to get such a benefit, its not something that could be run as a major reason for large numbers of people to join. While the first in an area would do very well, the return to others later would be far harder to achieve, as more people had already been told of the club. New Atlantis International Services Corporation who are organizing this with us, have insisted that we monitor the number of members joining and becoming involved in the points programme, but not moving forward to becoming involved in self build, and if this number starts to grow significantly, that we put in a qualifying period, that people have to be members before they can join the points programme, and to stop signing up all new affiliates for a period to safeguard the interest of members at that time. At the moment its not a problem as the majority of members join to build their dream home.
