Q.
Where do you see the clubs development going in the future
A.
As far as UK members are concerned, we envisage that the existing pattern will continue of recruiting some members in an area, then expanding the number in the area, developing meeting these needs and developing more areas. In many cases this is low key, in that there is no point in generating so many members that we cannot cope with them. We also don't want to create a spiral in the cost of plots in the areas we are in.
Special projects is the next stage, with 2 for 2005, one looking at the provision of affordable homes and the other at the opposite extreme looking at homes that will become the local landmarks of the future. We area also considering attending a few self build shows, something we have not done up to now.
We can already help with holiday home development thought the USA and Canada, and have plans at an advanced stage in relation to Ireland. Over the next two years we expect to see groups of members looking to develop holiday homes in many of the courtiers of Europe.
The range of agreement blanks, forms and work books will continue to increase, as will the information we have available on the internet, with the next major expansion being case studies.
As far as the proactive search for plots, we expect to be making more contacts with a wider range of organizations and to become involved in far more joint ventures. we expect as well to see some new forms of self build opportunities evolve, based around shells developed as parts of mixed use developments that self builders can complete.
The points programme will continue to expand with more goodies and grants on offer.
The number of people interested in self build has greatly increased over the last few years, with some specialist magazines showing nearly a doubling in subscription rates. We expect to see more and more people realize the benefits and for a wider range of people to have the confidence to become involved.
As membership grows we will also be able to take on larger sites and look towards stimulating many other forms of development.
